New Jersey police officer charged after spending 1000’s of $100k mistakenly deposited into checking account

A New Jersey police officer spent greater than $35,000 by accident deposited into his checking account, prosecutors mentioned Thursday. 

On Tuesday, Atlantic Metropolis Police Officer LaQuay DuBose, 37, is charged with third-degree theft for spending the cash after his financial institution mistakenly deposited a verify for $100,000 into his account, authorities mentioned.

The deposit occurred on March 21, 2023. Days later, on March 27, financial institution workers realized the error, withdrew the funds and closed the officer’s account. 

Nonetheless, his spending resulted in his account being overdrawn by $35,903.17, prosecutors mentioned. 

Prosecutors didn’t specify which financial institution was impacted.
