The president and the dean of Johns Hopkins Medication stated that they “repudiate” language in a publication from the college’s Workplace of Range that used a “definition of privilege that runs counter to the values of our establishment.”
The unique publication claimed that “males,” “White individuals,” “middle-aged individuals” and “able-bodied individuals” amongst different teams profit from “privilege,” which was the “Range Phrase of the Month” for the January 2024 situation of its Month-to-month Range Digest.
“Privilege is an unearned profit given to people who find themselves in a selected social group. Privilege operates on private, interpersonal, cultural and institutional ranges, and it gives benefits and favors to members of dominant teams on the expense of members of different teams,” the publication learn.

On Thursday, Chief Range Officer Dr. Sherita H. Golden apologized over the wording of the definition for “privilege,” saying she “deeply” regretted the “overly simplistic and poorly worded” publication, which she stated “had the other impact of being exclusionary and hurtful to members of our group.”

Whereas it is unclear whether or not Golden will face any disciplinary motion, Theodore L. DeWeese, CEO of Johns Hopkins Medication, and Kevin W. Sowers, Govt Vice President, doubled down on Golden’s apology in a letter addressed to “colleagues,” saying the definition “runs counter to the values of our establishment, and our mission and dedication to serve everybody equally.”
“Dr. Golden heard the suggestions from our group, sincerely apologized and retracted the definition. We absolutely help and admire her choice to take action, and as leaders of Johns Hopkins Medication, we, too, repudiate this language,” they wrote, in line with X, previously Twitter, account @EndWokeness, which obtained the letter.
It added, “For us as a group, we hope this may be a chance for reflection on how we construct bridges and connection even round difficult subjects.”
