Memphis Zoo names newly hatched endangered penguin chick after ‘Lord of the Rings’ character

Elrond, an African black-footed penguin, was born at Memphis Zoo in Tennessee on Oct. 22, 2023. 

The penguin was the firstborn of fogeys Betty and Pippin. 

Pippin, father of Elrond, was named after Peregrin (Pippin), from the “Lord of the Rings” collection.
